In the 4th Major of the periodic table are the so-called semiconductor element (Si, Ge, ...), which is alone on a solid tie. A compound semiconductor, however, by combining elements from the III. and V or II and VI. Major formed (such as GaAs, GaN).

For provisioning semiconductor (link to this chapter: influencing the leadership qualities of a semiconductor by doping) are often phosphorus, aluminum, arsenic and boron.

In production steps also come e.g. Fluorine for etching and oxygen to the formation of insulating silicon oxide is used.
